One of my favorite things to do when we travel is to check out all the local thrift or consignment stores, which thank goodness, my husband doesn’t mind (as long as we don’t spend too much time doing it!) But he’s always a good sport about it, especially when we can find some cool vintage […]
I was at an estate sale the other day and they had their check-out area in the garage. While standing in line, I saw a shelf of cleaning products, glues, and miscellaneous spray cans of stuff. I went over for a closer look and spied a can of Static Guard and was THRILLED…especially because it was almost full and only 50 cents. I have seriously needed a can of Static Guard for FIVE years but always forget to buy it at the store. Seriously.
It’s Labor Day and a lot of women will be packing away their summer clothes and pulling out their fall/winter clothes…and some will even include (in packing away) anything white… But wait, you CAN still wear white!
Well another summer has come to an end and soon we’ll be enjoying the crisp, cooler weather. I know a lot of women who begin the seasonal transition with their wardrobe, packing away the shorts and tanks, while pulling out the sweaters and boots, right about now. But before you stow away your summer whites, […]
I’m at home during the day and usually have the TV on for background noise while I write and research articles. The other day I heard a talk show host talking about a list of fashion “noes” for women of various ages. I was so surprised at some of them I actually got up and […]
Joining me today for a discussion of how to wear animal print is my good friend Ashley, who gives some excellent tips on basic do’s and don’ts. We began the discussion before filming when I had told her about a woman I had seen at the grocery store who had on some really cute pieces […]
I started trying on bras and was frustrated that nothing looked or felt right. I asked the sales clerk, Michelle for help so she gave me a personal fitting and turns out, I was totally wearing the wrong size! I have been wearing a 34 B for and she measured me at a 32 C.
Baby and toddler clothes are so adorable…and so expensive. I was at a store the other day shopping for a baby shower and saw bibs priced at $6.99 and little gowns (that had less material than a wash cloth) starting at $9.99!! I thought, “who can afford to dress their baby with these prices??” If you’re fortunate enough […]
Is the Genie Bra really “what all women wish for”? Tammy found out and dishes her findings here…
On the very last day of March this year, my fabulous friend and occasional cooking and bargain shopping partner in crime, Ashley Gillit, found out her lease to Ashley’s Attic on North Tejon (here in the Springs) wasn’t going to be renewed. It was most likely due to her last big $5 sale and all the loud […]
Love, love, love shopping at the Dollar Tree stores (or any dollar store where everything is actually only a dollar.) Two of the items I picked up this month were almost exact duplicates of similar items I bought at a higher dollar amount and they worked the same.
Here’s my top five favorites this month:
Ashley’s our latest thrift store model…She has been a life-long thrift store shopper and knows how to mix and match items to make them look current and stylish. She has a great eye for quality pieces and I think that each of these outfits she’s modeling looks like they could be any outfit you’d seen in any of the latest fashion magazines.
Have you ever bought a fabulous item of clothing that ended up hanging in your closet because you didn’t know what to pair it with? Or maybe you’ve seen a fashion look or trend that you wanted to try out but didn’t know if it would look good on your particular frame? Or perhaps you want […]
This year I decided to see if I could make our grandchildren’s Easter baskets from the thrift stores or at least get the bulk of the items from there. I went to Goodwill and here’s what I came up with:
Spring is finally here with summer right around the corner and I couldn’t be happier. Once spring gets here I like to spruce things up a bit around the house and in my wardrobe, choosing items that reflect the sun-filled days and warmer weather. The first place I head to is one of our local […]
My least favorite item to shop for is a bra. I will put off buying a new one until I have literally worn the life out of mine, with the straps stretched out, offering no support, and certainly not looking as nice as what I’m wearing on the outside. Several years ago I decided to […]
My girlfriend is pregnant with her first child and much to her dismay, discovered how expensive maternity clothes are. And it’s not like you can just do without them! Now prior to her pregnancy, she was one of my friends who thought thrift store shopping was kind of “icky”….now, she’s wanting to go shopping at Goodwill or arc every week because she has found some fabulous maternity clothes there and discovered, no, they are not “icky” and they are CHEAP (without looking cheap).
It’s long been a tradition to wear green on St. Patrick’s Day, protecting you from a “pinch.” By buying thrift/consignment items, you can not only wear green, but “be green”… looking stylish, recycling and saving money in the process. I visited two of my favorite local stores (Discover Goodwill and Ashley’s Attic,) to find some […]
T-Shirts can be comfortable, inexpensive, and very versatile. They come in long or short-sleeve styles, with different necklines, and lots of color or pattern options. And you can find them anywhere and everywhere, with some really great deals at stores like Walmart, Target or Kmart. I always look for tees when shopping at Goodwill or […]
If you put off getting a new winter coat or jacket this year because of budget constraints, now is a great time to consider purchasing one since there are so many great sales. Even though it may still be cold outside and winter doesn’t officially end till March 20th, stores are deeply discounting their winter […]
