Back to School Savings With Discover Goodwill – 719woman.com

Last week I was able to join John Martin with FOX21 News to talk about back-to-school savings you can find at Discover Goodwill. We all know that getting school supplies, paying for school activities, and then of course outfitting the kids with “new” clothes can add up quickly.

But you can slash your costs dramatically by shopping for school clothes, shoes, and even backpacks when you shop at your local thrift stores. Not only can the kids find cool items that aren’t being sold by the mass at department stores, which allows them to show their unique fashion flair, but you are teaching them how to be green by reusing and recycling. And of course every time you shop or donate at Goodwill, you’re helping your community.

I joined John for 3 episodes during the broadcast and here they are….

WHAT TO LOOK FOR WHEN SHOPPING AT THRIFT/NONPROFIT STORES –

Because most of the clothing donated to Discover Goodwill has been “gently worn,” there are a few things you want to check for before purchasing. Look at the collars and sleeves to make sure there’s not a lot of fraying, look for stains or tears, and when buying shoes, look at the soles and heel tips. If there’s a lot of obvious wear and tear, you won’t get as much use from those bargains. But seriously, I buy 90% of my own clothes from Goodwill and when you shop smart and get those excellent brands (for less of course!) that are well-made and durable, they’ll last a really long time.

WHY SHOP DISCOVER GOODWILL?

I think our younger generation is more aware of the planet, what being green is all about, and wanting to keep our environment clean for themselves and others. Teaching our children to donate their own items they no longer want, that are still perfectly good and would make someone else look and feel good is a valuable lesson. And since 90 cents out of every dollar generated at Discover Goodwill goes back into our community, they can feel good about buying and donating.

WHICH COST MORE –

There’s nothing wrong with shopping at the mall or department stores of course but if you’re on a budget or just want more bang for your buck, Discover Goodwill is a good choice. Here’s a few examples of comparable items with a big price difference.

Great savings, eco-friendly, helping your community…shopping for back-to-school clothes is a win-win situation when you shop at Discover Goodwill.

And what a blast I had with John Martin from FOX21 News!!
