Have you ever bought a fabulous item of clothing that ended up hanging in your closet because you didn’t know what to pair it with? Or maybe you’ve seen a fashion look or trend that you wanted to try out but didn’t know if it would look good on your particular frame? Or perhaps you want to look chic in a beautiful scarf but don’t know quite how to tie it or drape it and you just end up looking bulky? I have.
Just the other day I was at my friend’s consignment store and while I was there I heard at least six women come out of the dressing room and ask “What would I wear this with?” or “Could I wear this to a summer wedding?” or “Would I wear flats or heels with this?” I personally always pop out of the dressing room at her store and ask “Does this make my butt look big?” (Which is our joke because my butt tends to be as flat as a pancake.)
A lot of you may remember my friend Ashley, who appears on tons of my cooking videos and has helped with lots of the fashion makeovers we’ve done at Discover Goodwill. Ashley has an eye for fashion, knows how to accessorize for different looks and feels, and is honest when it comes to fashion questions. If it doesn’t flatter your shape or quite frankly, look good on you, she will tell you in a nice, but honest way (if you ask that is, she doesn’t hurl insults on a whim…ha!) She wants people to look and feel great, no matter what the occasion.

Anyway…I have been wanting to do a fashion column with Ashley, using a forum where readers can send in their burning fashion questions, and now we’re finally going to do it.
We’re still working on the details and we’d really like some input from you. Whether you own a favorite fashion piece and want to update it and freshen the look but don’t know how, to simply wanting to know which length of skinny jeans looks best for your body, we want to hear your questions. You can send in a picture of yourself, along with your question or simply send in a question. We’ll probably feature our fashion column every couple of weeks or so, depending on how this pans out.
A personal fashion “question/wish” of mine is how to find a great pair of white pants I can wear in the summer that I think I look good in. For whatever reason, I just can’t find a pair that I like. Believe me when I say I KNOW I am a thin person but when I put a pair of white pants on, I think they make me look heavier than I am. I see other women, women of all sizes, who look stylish and fab in white jeans, or linen, or cotton pants, whether they are capris, trousers, jeans, etc. But I think I look horrible. Maybe it’s the style, or the cut, or the length, or perhaps the material? How do I wear white pants would be my “burning fashion question.”
Can you wear boots year round?
How do I pull off a casual but stylish look?
What styles will make me look taller?
What length of shorts looks best for my age?
What type of shoes should I wear with skinny jeans?
How do you mix prints without looking like a clown?
Just an example of questions I’ve seen or heard asked when it comes to fashion.
We’re considering the title for the column to be “Ashley’s 2 Cents”…(Cause We’re Not Spending a Buck!)
