Easy Ways To Stay Healthy and Not Gain Weight During Football Season

IMG_0678

Football season’s here. For some, eating “game night” food and getting together with friends, having a drink or two while you enjoy the game is what a lot of fans like to do. If you have a tendency to do this, week after week during the season, chances are your waistline will expand and you’ll be consuming more sugars, fats, carbs, etc., because we tend to eat the least healthy foods when gathered around having fun. Think greasy, sauce-laden wings, chips and dips, processed meats and cheeses, and anything and everything bacon-wrapped. But you can enjoy the game and friends without blowing your healthy lifestyle and not starving yourself. My personal favorite items to eat during game day (I’m not watching but my husband is…our deal is he can watch to his heart’s content and I go in the bedroom and read the entire time, without any guilt…but I’m still eating), are dips. I love any and all dips. And I especially love them on breads or chips of any kind. But I instead, not all the time, but most of the time, sub the chips and breads with really fresh, crisp raw veggies and I can indulge in a really delicious, maybe not so healthy dip without the added calories or sugar of the extra carbs.

Substituting low-fat mayo, yogurt and low-fat sour cream for regular mayo helps keep dips healthier. Salsa or veggie dips can be great with just a bit of olive oil or lemon or lime juice. If possible, bake instead of frying. Just a few of my own ways I try to keep from over-indulging.

Here’s some more great tips on Staying Healthy During Football Season From Moms Everyday.
