Easy & Inexpensive Easter Baskets….And Crafts – All $1.00 Each

Last week we showed how easy and inexpensive it can be to make an Easter basket from thrift store finds, with us featuring items from Discover Goodwill, which included baskets, books, toys, and clothes. Today we’ll show just a few of the really cute and fun Easter items you can pick from your local dollar store to personalize a basket for your little chick. (Sorry, had to say that.) I found all my items at our local Dollar Tree. These particular items are geared towards younger kids but the Dollar Tree has tons of items you can use for older kids, including items like nail polish, bath salts, books, games, puzzles, car gadgets, etc.

I thought these plastic Easter eggs were cute and with such a variety to choose from, I can make each of our grandchildren, a totally unique basket, customized to their personality. The devil egg tray was also a dollar and an easy and inexpensive way to display or transport them.

The plastic eggs come in multiple size packages….these particular ones came in packs of 8 and 12 for $1.00. If you want to limit the amount of candy your kids are getting, you can fill these up with “treats” like an extra hour of TV or an extra hour of sleep on the weekend, written on folded pieces of paper.

You can find Easter egg color kits at all the stores. Of course this only cost a dollar and there are lots of varieties to choose from. This package of Dunk’ Color cups makes it easy for everyone to have their own cups of color and doesn’t ruin any bowls. Comes with 5 cups, 5 coloring tablets and a dipper.

Lots of Easter and spring figurines to choose from, which make fun basket additions or decorations for your home. Our grandson Judah was fascinated with our Christmas snow globes so I thought he’d enjoy this chick one.

If you have more than one basket to make, buying packages of candy with multiple items in it is a an easy way to fill them up without spending a ton of money. Because I have three grandchildren, the package of fudge filled Big Ears and Bunny Face Eggs (filled with powder candy) is perfect. They each get one and there won’t be any “squabbling” over who got something different.

I don’t know any kids who don’t like bubbles. In fact, I’ve yet to meet an adult who can resist a can of bubbles and wand. The Dollar Tree had lots of different packages of bubbles to choose from.

During the Christmas season I discovered these tubs of cotton candy that are seriously yummy and comes in different flavors. I know several moms who bought these for stocking stuffers and hear their kids loved it. I have enjoyed hours playing with the bunny “key chain” with jelly beans. The bunny has a button you push, which spins his face, giving you a different expression each time. Kids will love this. And lots of “name brand” candy you can choose from, like these Reese’s Pieces Pastel Eggs.

Fun little toys and crafts to be found at your local dollar store. What boy (or girl) couldn’t use some Spiderman crayons? For younger kids, a carrot golf club and ball will keep them entertained, and not cause serious  injuries if used as a sword….just saying, I know little boys! Another gadget I personally found amusing, and which I’m giving to our adult kids..this Silly Shotz Press’N Pop. You stand the toy up on a flat surface, push its head down, let go, and watch it pop several feet up in the air. It kept me and the cats amused.

The Dollar Tree has lots of different packages and shapes of sidewalk chalk. These are both cute for Easter…a six pack of egg-shaped chalk or a chick chalk holder.

And of course you need a basket to put all the goodies in. There are all sorts of baskets, in different colors, shapes, and sizes. I liked these particular baskets because they don’t look like Easter baskets and the kids can use these to store toys or crafts or any “treasures” after the candy has been eaten.

For easy, fast and non-messy craft projects, these foam stickers make it a snap. Lots of different shapes, letters, and designs to choose from. I picked up a package with 8 bigger shapes and a couple with 200 smaller shapes.

Let the kids make their own “Easter tree“….

I cut a couple of branches from outside, the eggs came in a package of 12, the green pot is from the Dollar Tree and the florist foam came in a package with two. A little bit of Easter grass over the foam will complete this project.

Completed baskets that cost very little.

And for an easy dessert….the cupcake cups and picks, cake mix, icing, and cupcake stand were all $1 each….
