As Seen On TV – Dutch Glow Amish Wood Milk…Does It Work?

I’ve seen commercials for this Dutch Glow Amish Wood Milk for a couple of years now and had been wanting to try it but didn’t want to order it and pay those shipping and handling charges that can end up costing more than the product itself. So when I saw it at Bed Bath & Beyond for $9.99 I was super excited. (Plus I had a 20% off coupon.) Watching the TV ads I saw old, water-stained, dirty and dull wood being transformed with a just a spritz and swish, into beautiful, gleaming, restored looking wood. Oh how my house was going to shine!

WHAT IT CLAIMS…

Dutch Glow Amish Wood Milk claims it…

Reveals wood’s natural beauty.

Removes years of wax buildup.

Works on any wood surface.

Cleans, polishes, and nourishes.

Helps repel dust.

And that it comes from a 100 year-old woodworker’s formula.

WOW!

It also promises to remove heat and water marks on the surface of wood that has not been damaged by the water or heat.

AMAZING RESULTS GUARANTEED –

Now Dutch Glow Amish Wood Milk does say that it’s not “magic,” and that it is NOT a wood refinishing product and will not strip or remove coatings.  I have a lot of dull wood pieces in our house and I also have quite a few small wood dressers and shelves I’ve picked up at garage sales to someday refinish (someday has turned into years) so I again, was super excited to try this product. Sounded too good to be true, especially when they promised I wouldn’t have to scrub or use a lot of elbow grease.

DID IT WORK?

The directions say to shake the bottle and then either apply Dutch Glow directly to your furniture by directing a light spray of Dutch Glow to the piece and then wipe with a soft cloth, or spray some onto a soft cloth and then use the cloth to polish the item. Well that would be fine IF the pump worked. I worked with that pump spray for a long time, trying to get it to spray and eventually I gave up and just unscrewed the top and poured some on a cloth. (I later read reviews and saw this was a complaint from hundreds of people.)

Here’s the before picture.

Now I used the Amish Wood Milk on the left and Pledge on the right.

Don’t think the Dutch Glow worked better than the Pledge, which cost a fraction of the price of the Amish Wood Milk did…

Dutch Glow Amish Wood Milk is “based on a century-old Amish woodworker’s pure and simple formula, this polish does not contain harsh chemicals. Made with a perfect blend of pure ingredients that will remove dirt, grease, fingerprints, heat rings, and watermarks from furniture, cabinetry…anything made of wood.”

The only problem I had with the above statement is that after a lot of searches, I still couldn’t find a list of ingredients for this product. It’s not listed on the box, bottle, or on the As Seen On TV website. (A great website to check out product ingredients is the Environmental Working Group, ewg.org.) I personally have a problem with a product that doesn’t make ingredients known to consumers.

Another example…

I used Pledge on the right and the Dutch Glow Amish Milk on the left.

If you buy this online, it costs $10 but wait…you get 1 free. Good price? Not when you consider you have to pay a shipping charge of $7.95 per bottle, which brings the cost per bottle to $12.95. I can pick up a can of dusting spray that works better than this all day long for $3 to $4.

Was I disappointed? Yes. Would I buy this again? Absolutely not. In my opinion, it was a total waste of money.

I used the Dutch Glow on the top drawer and Pledge on the bottom drawer.

Again, a waste of money.
