I love multi-purpose cleaning products which helps you save money and takes up less storage space. Dawn dish soap is on the top of my list of favorite cleaning products that can serve so many purposes around the house. I remember when the first ads aired showing Dawn being used to clean up birds after oil spills and thinking, wow! Nice they are helping with the animal-rescues but also, that Dawn really does work well on oil and grease. But it can do so much more.

My Truly Nasty Grimy Stove…

Over the holidays I used my stove more than usual and then used it even more while working on tons of new recipes. Lots of oil splatters and stains in addition to layers of burned sugar from my husband making large pots of tea and adding sugar while it was hot, which made it boil over. I admit my stovetop was grimy and just plain nasty.

Prior to my decision to finally clean the stovetop I had actually cleaned my oven using a Dawn recipe a friend shared on Facebook. I do have to keep the oven clean so I don’t set off the smoke detectors. Anyway, the mixture worked great and there was no heavy scrubbing required.

*Our oven is self-cleaning but the cats prefer I clean it by hand because they don’t like the fumes. Ha!

Here’s the oven cleaner mixture…

2 ounces Dawn

4 ounces bottled lemon juice

8 ounces white vinegar

10 ounces water

Add everything to a spray bottle. Spray inside of oven, let sit overnight, wipe clean.

When it came time to clean the stovetop I used this recipe again but forgot to add the lemon juice. And I forgot I forgot the lemon juice until I found the burners were taking a bit more scrubbing than the oven did. The mixture, without lemon juice did work really well but the addition of the juice makes it work even better. And I didn’t allow the mixture to sit overnight because I was in a hurry to get this finished so I could cook dinner. And it still worked great!

Here are my embarrassing before pictures…
