Taste-Testing a Mardi Gras Inspired King Cake Drink….Yum or Not?
So I came across a drink recipe that looked festive and sounded delicious in the Jan/Feb 2013 food network magazine…….which I thought might be tasty for a Valentine cocktail, even though it was written as a Mardi Gras drink. Down the hill I went to get the ingredients (ok, I admit I was headed […]
My 50th Birthday Bash…..Mixing Inexpensive with “Splurge” For A Fabulous Party
In 2012, with my 50th birthday approaching in January 2013, my husband offered to do pretty much anything to help commemorate the big day. I decided I wanted to spend it with friends, here at the house, with a 50’s sock hop theme (even though I wasn’t alive in the 50’s).

August Hostess Gifts (Part 1)….From Manitou Springs
It’s been awhile since I’ve shopped in Manitou Springs so I decided to grab my camera and notebook and see what unique hostess (or any occasion) gifts I could find…for $10 or less….hoping to find at least a few ideas. Well, I had forgotten how cool the stores are and ended up finding a lot more $10 or less gifts than I imagined. Motorhead Traveler Visits Colorado Springs….And Executive Chef Cooks Rocky Mountain Cuisine In My Backyard!
It was beyond thrilling for me to use our backyard for the TV show Motorhead Traveler (a Canadian TV show)…and to have Executive Chef Scott Savage (from The Cliff House in Manitou Springs, which just so happens to be a 4 diamond restaurant) cooking up Rocky Mountain cuisine on our humble grill!
Pork Chops With Pineapple-Mango Salsa, Spicy Grilled Corn and Salt-Crusted Baked Potatoes-($10 or Less Meal)
This is a super easy dinner…quick enough for a hectic week-night, or for when you have guests over for a laid-back barbecue. I cook the potatoes (in the microwave) and boil the corn on the cob, then finish them off on the grill for some extra flavor. Make your salsa and corn sauce before you cook the chops, have your potatoes and corn cooked and ready to add to the grill and everything will be finished at the same time. Then entire meal came in at around $7.00 (the chops, mango, potatoes, corn and cilantro were on sale).
