Compound Butter Combinations….Easy To Make & Adds So Much Flavor

I have been using compound butter mixtures (butter with herbs, seasonings, etc. mixed together) for years in cooking and it’s one of the easiest and inexpensive ways to add flavor to meats, breads, veggies, poultry and seafood. I especially like using flavored butter this time of year when fresh herbs are abundant and we tend to grill everything. The very easiest way to make a flavorful compound butter is to simply mix room-temperature butter and your favorite chopped herb. It’s that easy!

A simple mix of sage and butter makes a fabulous corn on the cob spread. Butter and rosemary tastes great brushed on chicken and chives mixed with butter tastes great on pretty much everything! This is a great way to use store-bought herbs you have leftover or snip your own.

You can make your butter and then roll it or make butter balls and then wrap in Saran wrap or wax paper. Store it in the fridge or keep in the freezer, shaving or cutting off what you need as you need it. Chopped garlic mixed with butter makes an ordinary loaf of bread seem extra special when spread on the bread and then baked in the oven. I’ve given these compound butters as gifts too!

For some fun and flavorful combinations, check out these recipes from Homestead Survival….let these be an inspiration for your own combinations and enjoy.
